About Goonj
Since 1999, Goonj has built a network of communities from urban to village India, channelizing material as a tool to address crucial gaps in rural infrastructure, water, environment, livelihood, education, health, disaster relief and rehabilitation. Its engagement with both the urban and rural population has galvanized a mass civic participation in addressing basic but neglected issues. Goonj’s model of development implemented through its various Initiatives proposes a more inclusive alternative economy where everyone is an equal stakeholder in the process.
About Rahat
It is a reliable and time tested disaster relief initiative of Goonj that aims to engage a network of stakeholders in rural and urban India to support millions of daily wage workers who are affected by COVID-19.
A large number of daily wagers are out of jobs, and have gone back to their villages. A lot of them are stuck in cities with hardly any resources.
Goonj is working in parts of 12 states from Delhi to Bihar, Maharashtra to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
- Running and supporting Community Kitchens
- Reaching out with food and Ration Kits to migrant workers on the roads
- Production of masks and cloth sanitary napkins
- Supporting the efforts of many other agencies working on the ground
- Their vast network of partner organizations, volunteers, stakeholders and contributors in urban and rural India, built over the last 2 decades of work, has been activated and intensified.
