In 1984, Vidyaniketan Montessori was founded with the mission of being a unique neighborhood pre-school that offered an international, pre-primary curriculum. The school was first established in a quaint British bungalow in Richards Town in East Bangalore. It remains true to its roots, and continues to operate as a neighborhood pre-school that provides pre-primary education to children in the 2 -Â 6 years age group. Vidyaniketan is now an affiliate of Legacy School.
Formation of the Trust
On the 20th anniversary celebrations of Vidyaniketan Montessori School, Mrs. Priti Sait and Mr. Sanjay Udani joined hands as Trustees to establish the Vidyaniketan Education Trust as a not-for-profit organization in 2004.
Founding of Vidyaniketan Academy
Building further upon the mission of our Montessori, Vidyaniketan Academy was founded as an inclusive school; one that offered an international curriculum (International GCSE & GCE – UK) to mainstream students and also included a center for learning challenges. The main stream education was provided to children across Pre-Nursery to Grade 10 (Ages of 2- 16) and a school-like experience for children that were diagnosed with specific and severe learning challenges (Ages 7 -16). Ms Roopa Swamy, sharing the same belief, joined Vidyaniketan Academy as the Founding Principal and helped realize this vision. A unique curriculum, small class sizes and individual attention came to define Vidyaniketan Academy and gave it the impetus to grow.
New Trustees Join In 2009,
Vidyaniketan Academy lost a vital portion of its campus to road widening for the international airport link road and this compelled the Trustees to identify and move to a new campus, as the school could no longer continue to function effectively on a campus that was shrinking as it was growing. In 2009, Mr. B.H. Krishnamurthy and Mr. Sanjay Shenoy believed in the vision of the school and were co-opted as Joint Trustees to help support the advancement of the School.
School Relocates & Changes Name
In 2010, Vidyaniketan Academy moved to a new campus and was renamed as Legacy School. The School currently enrolls about 500 students from Nursery to Grade 12 and is considered to be one among the eminent schools in Bangalore. Legacy School continually strives to provide an enjoyable and meaningful learning experience for children.
Legacy Early Years
Given the exponential growth and success of the Legacy School, we began to receive several queries from parents in the Whitefield area. As a result, the Trustees took a decision to expand our service offering and planned to introduce smaller centers of excellence across the city called Legacy Early Years.
We inaugurated our first international pre-school in an exclusive gated villa in Whitefield, near Palm Meadows. The school follows the Montessori curriculum and has uniquely integrated it with the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) from the U.K.
The environment at Legacy Early Years is thoughtfully designed, embodying its philosophy that learning needs to be a joyful experience and a journey of exploration. The core value of love learning drives every aspect of the school and creates a framework to engage our children in their learning and development.
The previous campus of Vidyaniketan Academy is now an exclusive entre for students with specific and severe learning challenges.
Vidyaniketan Montessori continues to operate as a neighbourhood pre-primary learning centre.
Our vision continues to strengthen and evolve with the support and encouragement of our school community, while still staying humble and remaining true to the founding beliefs and values.
